On June 1st, 2025, I presented an image-filled summary of the historical aspects of my historical fiction book, Not An Ordinary Artist, A Polish Immigrant’s Challenging and Enduring Story.
The setting was perfect! The museum is located in the heart of the West Town neighborhood of Chicago where the main subject of my book, Florian Durzynski, spent the most formative years of his artistic career.
I especially emphasized how Polish immigrants contributed so much to the growth and success of Chicago in the 1920s to the 1940s.
If you love reading about Chicago history and about artists like Durzynski whose personal lives are as interesting as their careers, order a copy of my book Not An Ordinary Artist, A Polish Immigrant’s Challenging and Enduring Story on Amazon or from your local bookstore.

Also, I will give more presentations at libraries and art centers in the next few months.

The Polish people have done a lot in the formation of Chicago. I’m a few towns over in Aurora, and the Polish people have crafted much of Aurora also!
Dear Tom, Thanks for your comment. I see that you are a realtor in Aurora. You probably have a pretty good understanding of the people who live in Aurora. Your comment encouraged me to look up information about how Poles contributed to the formation of Aurora. From what I could ascertain, the railroads came to Aurora in the 1850s, and Aurora became a transportation hub. It appears that Poles did a lot to repair and work on the railroads. You’re more of an expert than I am since you work and maybe live in Aurora, but further research showed that Aurora has built a strong industrial base of factories and textile mills along the Fox River, and it seem that first and second generation Poles worked hard in these spheres also. I am in the planning stage with the Lombard Library about giving a presentation on my book there. Maybe the Aurora Library would be a good place to present also. The contributions of Poles to the building of the United States is probably under-appreciated. Thanks again for your interest.
